Perinatal Psychiatry Special Interest Group

Chair:   Dr Catherine Hinds                                                           Vice-Chair: Dr Chaitra Jairaj

Aims

This SIG aims to raise the profile of the subspecialty of Perinatal Psychiatry within the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, and improve the provision of perinatal mental health care in Ireland. In order to achieve this, we would like to provide a network of support and education for psychiatrists and trainees wishing to develop their interest in the area. The group would hold meetings, case discussions and events to improve knowledge and practice of perinatal psychiatry across Ireland, relevant to trainees, psychiatrists and other clinicians. The group would also provide an opportunity to disseminate and coordinate research in the field, being carried out in Ireland and overseas. We would like to support professional development and postgraduate training in Perinatal Psychiatry.

We would be a point of contact for the College for issues relating to Perinatal Psychiatry. We would advocate for perinatal patients and their families, and establish links with other groups and organisations where relevant.

The SIG will work to complement the College objectives.
