Highfield Healthcare Celebrates its Bicentenary

On 6th November, Highfield Healthcare celebrated 200 years since its founder John Eustace opened the hospital in 1825. For two centuries, Highfield Healthcare has stood as a place of care, compassion, and innovation. Incredibly, the Eustace family have led the institution for six generations.

College President, Dr Lorcan Martin attended the celebrations today and met with college member Dr Marina Bowe and Medical Director at Highfield, Dr Andrew Eustace. A sculpture was unveiled the mark the anniversary, design by the artist John Coll. This art piece was a figure of a heart made from moulds of the hands of the Eustace family and those of other staff members.

Highfield is now home to more than 500 dedicated professionals delivering excellence across mental health, nursing home, and dementia care services. The day was a nice celebration of the excellent mental healthcare that has been provided in Highfield for two centuries. It also looked to the future through their Vision 2030 strategy for expanding acute mental health services, strengthening community-based care, and continuing to shape healthcare for tomorrow.
