Bodywhys is the national voluntary organisation in Ireland supporting people affected by eating disorders and their carers. For #EDAW2024 they have selected the theme:
Eating Disorder Recovery and Beyond: Respecting Individuality and Identity.
Bodywhys have advised that this theme came about from their understanding that an eating disorder develops and functions differently for each individual person. Over time it can become a part of a person’s identity, and can become intertwined with the person’s sense of self. Bodywhys recognise that what it means to ‘recover’ is unique to each person. A person-centred approach is crucial to validate and recognise these individual experiences and to ensure that each person feels heard and supported, every step of the way.
Throughout the week Bodywhys will be amplifying lived experience, research, and clinical voices – with events centred around the key themes of ‘Individuality, Identity, and Recovery’.
These events include the 6th Irish National Eating Disorders Conference, which returns this year for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic:
Date: March 1st, 2024 – 09:30-16:30
Venue: The GAS Building, School of Nursing and Midwifery, D’Olier Street, Dublin 2.
For further information on this conference and on other events organised by Bodywhys please email alex@bodywhys.ie or access their website www.bodywhys.ie
Bodywhys also hosts a podcast series that covers a range of topics in the area of eating disorders. Episodes include “Mental Health & Eating Disorders at Third Level”, “Sensory processing, eating behaviours and autism”, “Improving the adult inpatient experience”, “Coping with Christmas and New Year”, and “Voices of Lived Experience – Christmas and New Years”. This podcast series includes insights from professionals and experts by experience, and it is highly informative for anyone with an interest in eating disorders. The Bodywhys podcast is available through the main podcast platforms.
It can also provide educational content to clinical teams and schools on request.
