Applications are invited for the post of SHO-Registrar in Psychiatry at St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin.
Liaison psychiatry SHO/registrar position with clinical special interests, research and academic teaching opportunities
This clinical post is based in St Vincent’s University Hospital – a major general and tertiary referral academic hospital, attached to the Dublin South East mental health service.
The successful candidate will gain experience in working in the Emergency Department (ED), on medical/surgical wards and in the Liaison Psychiatry outpatient clinic. They will provide bio-psycho-social assessment for a number of patient groups including:

patients presenting with self-harm or suicidal ideation (in line with the National Clinical Programme for Self-harm and Suicide Related Ideation – NCP-SHSI)

acute psychiatric presentations to ED

medically/surgically admitted patients with co-morbid mental health needs
They will be supported by a well-integrated and dynamic Liaison Psychiatry team.
There are also opportunities to gain experience in more specialised Liaison Psychiatry areas including neuropsychiatry, transplant psychiatry or psycho-oncology.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in research in a department with a significant track record in peer-reviewed scientific publications. They will have dedicated time to engage in ongoing research projects and will receive supervision throughout the stages of research towards publication.
They will also have the opportunity to be part of the UCD undergraduate teaching programme
The successful candidate will have on-call duties as part of the NCHD rota and will participate in the weekly academic training.
This post has proven to be attractive for psychiatry trainees who have completed BST and would like to gain some further clinical teaching and research experience prior to commencing HST.
Duration: This is a 6 month post.
