Why War? Study Day

Date: Saturday 12th April 2025

Venue: Avila Conference Centre, Bloomfield Avenue, Morehampton Rd, Ranelagh, D4

Organiser: Milltown Lacanian Association, Dr Emer Rutledge & Malachi McCoy

CPD: 6 External CPD Credits, approved by CPsychI

Overview: This is a conference discussing the question of Why War? from a psychoanalytic perspective. In 1932 Albert Einstein wrote to Freud in an open correspondence, on behalf of the League of Nations in relation to this question of war. Freud responded with his reflections on the inevitability of war. This seminar will discuss Freud’s discovery of the death drive and its implications for all of us.
