The Head of Accreditation will be the key leader in development and delivery of the CPsychI Accreditation processes. He/She will be responsible for the overall development and delivery of the inspection and accreditation of BST and HST training programmes, ensuring that it meets the requirements of the Medical Council.

This is an important and challenging time in Postgraduate Training and the College has been recognised by the Medical Council for the delivery of Postgraduate Training in Ireland. In this context, the College is required to evaluate the quality of its own training programmes (as outlined in the College Regulations), as well as being subject to inspection by the Medical Council.  As a senior appointment for the College, the Head of Accreditation will work closely with the Dean of Education, BST Vice Deans and Tutors, HST Mentors and other officers of the College, Trainee Committee, Chair of the Postgraduate Training Committee (PTC), PTC Committee, Council, Management Committee and relevant Postgraduate Training Department Manager(s).

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. To lead the strategic planning for the development of College Accreditation of the BST and HST training programmes.
  2. Lead the delivery, review, and further development of College Accreditation processes in order to appraise the quality of training posts and training centres
  3. Design and oversee the delivery of Accreditation panel member training and ensure the quality of the inspection process.
  4. Coordinate and deliver draft and final inspection reports, which are submitted to and ultimately approved by Council.
  5. Provide leadership to the Accreditation sub-committee of PTC and relevant team members of the Postgraduate Training Department.
  6. Through the development of accreditation processes, assist in building the College’s reputation for excellence in the development and delivery of Postgraduate Medical training.
  7. Assist the Dean of Education in participating in and responding to Medical Council Inspections.
  8. Contribute to policy development in relation to the quality of education and training provided by the College.
  9. Any other duties that are required by the College’s agreed strategic plan as approved by Council.

 

Other information

The post will be for 2 years and 1 day per week on a secondment basis (if currently employed) and will be based at the College’s premises at 5 Herbert Street, Dublin 2. There is flexibility in how the postholder will use the allocated time, whether one day per week or four days per month, for example.

The post is also open to those within 3 years of retirement from a substantive Consultant post and would therefore be directly employed by the College.

Applicants must be Consultant Psychiatrists of at least 5 years’ experience and must be entered on the Specialist Register and be PCS compliant. Qualifications or experience in medical education and postgraduate training in Psychiatry is desirable. Attendance at regular meetings of the Postgraduate Training Committee (PTC) and its Accreditation SC (Chair) is required. The Governance of this position is through the Dean of Education to the Management Committee, to the President and Council. The position will be supported by the Postgraduate Training Manager and administrative team.
